Licensing
Smart2Raw is dual-licensed. The copyright is held by one person, which is what makes the second option possible.
Open · AGPL-3.0-or-later
The published version, in full. Free to use, study, modify and redistribute — provided that anything you build on it, including software you offer over a network, is released under the same licence.
Source on GitHub →Commercial licence
For building Smart2Raw into a product you do not publish under AGPL. It also carries support, priority on fixes, and access to the advanced version.
Talk to us →Does the AGPL affect you?
It depends on one question: does what you build reach anyone else?
| your situation | AGPL is enough |
|---|---|
| research, study, evaluation, internal prototype | yes |
| internal tool that never leaves your organisation and is not offered over a network | usually yes |
| software you distribute to customers | no |
| SaaS or any service users reach over a network | no — this is the clause that distinguishes AGPL from GPL |
| firmware or a device you sell | no |
| embedding in a proprietary database, engine or platform | no |
The line is not a trap and it is not an accident. The AGPL is what makes an open, auditable, citable version possible without giving away the commercial right — and it is also what starts the conversation on this page.
If you are unsure which side of the line you are on, ask. It is a short conversation and it costs nothing.
